Original DIY crafts made from wood cuts - a review of the best ideas for use in the interior. 135 photos and video instructions on how to make a craft

Since ancient times, man has used trees for his needs: he built houses, fortresses, ships, carts, and used them in farming. The love for wooden products continues unabated. Particularly popular are crafts made from wood cuts, which look natural both at home and in the garden.

The scope for imagination is enormous; you just need to choose and prepare the wood correctly.

Where can I get saw cuts for crafts?

There are two options for obtaining saw cuts: prepare them yourself or buy them in a store for decoration. Preparing saw cuts for home decor is a labor-intensive process. For example, a freshly cut tree will not be suitable for this. It is sawn into pieces 40-50 cm long and placed in sawdust. This is how the wood loses some of its moisture.

Now you can cut half-meter pieces into circles no more than 5-6 cm thick. The cuts are sanded, dried and varnished. The harvesting process is presented in general; in fact, it is long and painstaking, requiring the use of special tools.

It is easier to buy saw cuts, but material costs are required. You can negotiate with a carpentry shop for wholesale supplies of saw cuts, and this will cost less.

Properties of wood, use in crafts

Linden wood is highly valued for various crafts and buildings that do not require high strength.

Basswood has long been widely used in wood carving because it is easy to cut and has a pure white wood, but with a pink tint. The characteristics of this material are as follows:

  • Easy to cut.
  • It pricks well.
  • Has normal softness.
  • Has sufficient elasticity.
  • Excellent paint.
  • Holds nails firmly even of large sizes.
  • Has high durability.

Panels from saw cuts

The simplest option is to lay out the inside of the rectangular perimeter with saw cuts of different diameters, but of the same thickness. You can attach the circles with glue or self-tapping screws if the wall is made of plasterboard. It will look like the end of a woodpile, the wood in which has not yet been split.

More complex options involve creating images. You can take a regular metal hoop and wrap it with self-adhesive film with a wood texture or twine in 2 layers. This will be the frame for the panel.

Inside the frame, directly on the wall, lay out the trunk of the future tree in several rows using brown wool yarn. The more twisted it is, the more it looks like a real tree. Its crown will be made of small and medium cuts and touch the top of the frame. The same saw cuts below will imitate a rock or hill on which the tree grows.

Description

Linden is one of the most ancient trees on earth. Scientists believe that it appeared in the era of dinosaurs. She survived global warming and the ice age, and witnessed great historical events.

Linden is heart-shaped. There are about 45 species of linden trees. This tree can be found in Europe, in Russia - in Siberia, in the Far East, in the Middle Zone, in the Caucasus.

Linden grows in forests, gardens, city boulevards and parks. Cultivated as an ornamental and landscaping plant. The most common species in the European part of the country is small-leaved linden.

Linden is especially good in summer, during flowering, when the tree is covered from top to bottom with fragrant yellowish flowers emitting a delicate aroma, collected in half-umbrellas, with a large bract, like a dragonfly’s wing.

Among forest trees, linden stands out for its dense crown. It is characterized by a powerful trunk, reaching a diameter of 2-3, and sometimes even 5 meters.

Linden blooms in natural conditions at the 20th year of life, and in plantations - only after 30 years. It blooms almost every year and very profusely in June-July. Flowering lasts 10-15 days. When the linden blossoms, a surprisingly subtle, delicate and sweetish aroma flows in the air, which is felt far beyond the linden gardens and parks.

Tabletops

Among the photos of crafts made from wood cuts, table tops are often found. The easiest way is to purchase a saw cut of a very large diameter. This comes from trees that are several centuries old. It is sanded, varnished, the legs are adjusted, and the table is ready.

But acquiring such a huge cut is a rare success, so we will make a tabletop from what can be found more often. For it you will need to make a wooden box of a square or rectangular shape with sides no higher than 7 cm. The width of the tabletop will be determined by the expected number of people who will sit at this table.

The box must be filled with sawdust. Their arrangement can be chaotic or ordered, in the form of an ornament. The gaps between large circles can be filled with smaller ones, and the remaining space can be filled with sand or sawdust.

Place tempered glass on top, equal in size to the tabletop. You can secure it with bolts, but first you will have to take the glass to the workshop to drill holes.

Or you can simply insert it tightly into the box. The shape of the tabletop can be either round or oval, if you order the frame and glass from specialists.

Birdhouse with collapsible design

Creating conditions for birds to live in a summer cottage is useful and pleasant.

Firstly, the birds destroy pests, and secondly, there is an opportunity to enjoy their singing.

Birds will definitely settle in the house if they follow certain rules when making it:

  • the birdhouse is made from hardwood that does not emit resin;
  • do not use plywood and chipboard, as the glue repels birds;
  • the workpieces are fastened with nails or screws, rather than glued together;
  • the wall thickness is made at least 20 mm to retain heat inside the birdhouse;
  • The inner surface of the walls is left unplaned so that the chicks rise to the entrance.

A collapsible birdhouse with a flat roof, as shown on the YouTube channel TheAnt , begins to be made by choosing a board.

Board for birdhouse

The board, planed on one side, is sawn into 6 pieces with the following dimensions:

  • front wall of the birdhouse - height 373 mm;
  • roof of the future birdhouse - height 390 mm;
  • back wall of the birdhouse - height 340 mm;
  • the bottom of the birdhouse is a square with sides of 150 mm;
  • side wall - height 370 mm;
  • side wall - height 340 mm.

On the front wall, 100 mm are retreated from above and a compass is used to mark a circle with a diameter of 47–50 mm for the birdhouse entrance.

Taphole marking

According to the marks, the hole is drilled, cut out and processed with a rasp.

Assemble the birdhouse using self-tapping screws. To do this, use a 2 mm drill to make holes at the fastening points.

Assembly begins by attaching the side walls to the bottom of the birdhouse. After this, the back wall and the front wall are attached. The installation is completed by fastening the roof.

Fastening the walls of the birdhouse

In front of the tap hole, you can make a wooden perch on the outside. However, large birds will land on it and pester the chicks.

A wooden pole is attached to the back wall for fastening.

Birdhouse assembled

Since self-tapping screws were used during assembly, the birdhouse can be disassembled to throw out the garbage that the birds brought in. When disassembled, the birdhouse fits into a backpack. You can bring it to the dacha and then assemble it.

Hot coasters

If the question arises of how to make wood crafts for the kitchen interior, pay attention to hot coasters. The simplest thing is to take a sawn circle and place it under a cup of coffee or a hot kettle. If you want something more original, take a cut with a diameter of 30-40 cm and several smaller cuts. They will be located inside a large circle. To do this, you will have to cut or hollow out a hole for each small cut.

As a result, when all the small circles are inserted into their niches, you need to sand the finished stand so that its surface becomes perfectly smooth. For variety, you can place multi-colored glass balls from a gift store between the cuts.

Table

A great idea for crafts made from boards is a coffee table. It will decorate any room and can be useful. For example, such furniture is convenient for gatherings with friends. The table can also act as additional storage space. As a result, the product itself looks very aesthetically pleasing, so it will easily fit into any interior.

In order to complete it, you need to stock up on the following set of tools and materials:

  • 4 wooden blocks 5*5*60 cm;
  • 1 wooden block 5*5*60 cm;
  • 2 boards 10*100 cm;
  • 2 boards 10*60 cm;
  • 4 boards 15*100 cm;
  • 4 wide metal corners;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • screwdriver;
  • varnish

The algorithm for creating a table consists of the following sequence of steps:

  1. Make a rectangular structure. To do this, you need to take boards with dimensions of 10*100 cm and 10*60 cm. Connect them using metal corners.
  2. Attach 4 wooden blocks vertically to the inside of the resulting rectangle. This should create a table base with legs.
  3. Using a screwdriver and self-tapping screws, install the remaining wooden block perpendicular to the 10*100 cm boards.
  4. Make the tabletop. To do this, you need to secure 15*100 cm boards on top of the base of the table. During work, you need to make sure that the material fits tightly together.
  5. Cover the table with varnish. If desired, you can replace the varnish with paint of a color that matches the interior.

No other material allows you to change yourself as easily and simply as wood. Almost all design solutions and even the most creative wishes can be brought to life.

Mirror frame

While studying the review of the most beautiful crafts made from sawn wood, you can see a wonderful round mirror. For the base, you need to cut a circle out of plywood, the diameter of which will be 10-15 cm larger than the diameter of the mirror. Glue a mirror into the center of the plywood circle, and along the edges there are wood cuts, which form the original frame.

Medicinal properties

The bark, buds, bracts and inflorescences of linden serve as valuable medicinal raw materials. The flowers and leaves of the tree contain vitamin C, glucose, bioflavonoids, carotene, phytoncides, trace elements, protein, tannin.

The essential oil contained in linden flowers quickly spreads through the air, having a calming effect on the nervous system. That is why walking along linden alleys brings great benefits to human health.

Whole books have been written about the beneficial medicinal properties of linden.

Christmas decorations

Small saw cuts can serve as a basis for Christmas tree decorations. It is enough to glue felt figures of natural wood shades to them on both sides. These can be figures of deer, stars, figured snowflakes.

Multilayer applications will look especially beautiful. The toy will be complemented by bows made of decorative cord and large wooden beads.

A more complex version of toys is gluing the cuts together, for example, in the shape of a heart.

Cellulose

In any wood, oxygen, carbon and hydrogen form complex compounds of the organic type. Some of them enter the cell walls, another part goes directly into the cells. The cell walls of linden wood consist of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin.

Cellulose is obtained from linden wood under certain chemical influences.

Wood chips are boiled in an acidic or alkaline environment at extremely high temperatures and pressure. Then they wash it and bleach it, having previously cleaned it.

From linden cellulose you can make:

And from hemicellulose and lignin, ethyl alcohol, yeast for livestock feeding, dry ice, and vanillin are obtained.

Decorative base for wall shelf

Instructions on how to make a craft with your own hands.

Take a saw cut with a diameter of 50 cm or more and a thickness of at least 30 cm. Order from a workshop to have something like a cylinder hollowed out of the saw cut, leaving a bottom 5-6 cm wide. This will be the base. It will resemble a saucepan. The bottom and walls from the inside must be carefully sanded.

Run a flat LED strip around the perimeter of the cylinder. Inside, attach a regular rectangular shelf of a suitable size.

Place the entire structure on the wall, placing a frame with a photo or a small indoor flower on the shelf. This craft can serve as an excellent night light.

Energy of different types of wood

Many people know that trees have their own energy. Moreover, it is characteristic of both fruit and wild plants. The division into donors who feed people with energy, and consumers who free people from its negative impact. It is believed that they themselves have a negative charge. However, its influence is quite unique.

Unlike chipboard or MDF, natural solid wood does not contain formaldehyde resins or other adhesive components, some of which can become a source of carcinogenic substances in the air.

  1. Species with positive energy include birch, pine, cedar, maple, acacia, rowan, apple, ash, and linden. Their effect is especially powerful during the flowering period.
  2. “Consumer” trees represent a large group, which includes: aspen, poplar, spruce, fir, bird cherry, willow, alder, chestnut and others.

Mainly donor trees are used for furniture production.

It is not without reason that owners of furniture made of oak note not only its durability, but also its beneficial effects on health, but only for those who have a strong body. Such people receive additional energy and increase vitality by regularly using oak furniture.

Natural wood has been and remains relevant and suitable for many styles.

But furniture made from birch has a soft but strong energy effect and is more suitable for a home where people with poor health live.

Pine has a powerful calming effect. Relaxing after a hard day in a pine chair will relieve irritation and give peace and clarity of thought. Do-it-yourself pine furniture will be pleasant in your home and durable.

When properly used, an array can serve for decades without losing its strength and quality.

Walnut is not only an expensive and spectacular wood. Furniture made from solid walnut is distinguished by its beauty and durability, and also, being made from a plant energy “vampire,” it is capable of “pulling off” negative moods, calming, and giving the right course of thoughts.

Beech is quite often used to make furniture. The energy of wood increases resistance to stress and the ability to concentrate.

The average service life of wooden products is 40-50 years.

Linden is a very “convenient” tree not only for the production of furniture, but also for working with the energy of the owners. It exerts its influence depending on the state of the person himself: at the right moment it can feed with vitality or relieve stress.
